Niall Horan recently confessed the aspect that he hates in being a coach on The Voice. The former band member also talked about his admiration for retiring country superstar Blake Shelton.
Niall Horan Hates His Coaching Power in The Voice
Sitting down for an interview with Bru of Audacy Check In, Niall Horan shared how has The Voice been for him so far. According to the “This Town” singer, he was looking for aspiring musicians that he could mentor with his expertise and advice.
“You basically go for someone you feel you can actually help and it’s not just for the TV show,” he said. “So like, my favorite type of music is like singer-songwriter, someone with like a unique tone.”
After hearing the vocals of over a hundred people in the Blind Auditions, Horan emphasized the significance of picking the right moments. Such has become his mindset in forming his “dream team” in the competition. Yet, while Horan admitted that he’s been enjoying the experience, the singer dislikes it whenever a contestant has to leave.
“The early part of the show is so fun,” he said. “The rest of it is hard. [You] got to make decisions, people have to go home.”
Furthermore, he mentioned that coming from a competition series has helped him communicate to his team better. However, he also recognizes how dangerous it is to be sitting in the rotating chair.
“The only thing I don’t like about it is the power that I have,” he said.
Alongside Chance The Rapper, Horan will have to navigate The Voice as a newbie in the panel. On top of this is the challenge to beat the series’ proven veterans Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton.

He Says He and Blake Shelton Are “Pretty Much The Same Person”
During the same interview, Horan also talked about his relationship with fellow coach Blake Shelton. The singer went on to describe how much of an “Oklahoman beauty” the country musician is.
“He’s an absolute legend,” he said. “I’ve never met the guy. Day one, he couldn’t have made me feel any more welcomed.”
According to him, he gets along with everyone in The Voice but he’s particularly formed a bond with the “Honey Bee” singer. For Horan, he and Shelton are basically the “same person.”
Elsewhere in the podcast, Horan revealed that Shelton is not telling him any wisdom about coaching. This is nonetheless expected from the country singer, given his competitive spirit since the premiere season of the series.
