Confession: I was that weird breed of kid who gave up recess to spend more time in the school’s library so that I could talk Huck Finn and Nancy Drew with the librarian. She gifted me with the lowdown on literature, or at least the abridged version a 10-year-old would appreciate, and I soaked it all up. Nowadays, libraries have stepped aside for big-brand bookstores who lure us in with coffee bars and bargain bins, but there’s just something about a quiet library nook that makes you feel cozy, and like less of a consumerist a-hole. I understand that not everyone has been properly acquainted with their local library, but why not take a step in? It won’t bite. Promise.
