A new Batman is here to save Gotham City. Amazon Prime Video has released a cast announcement teaser for its upcoming animated series “Batman: Caped Crusader,” and with it comes confirmation that Hamish Linklater will be voicing the Dark Knight. The teaser also includes a first listen at the actor’s Batman voice. Linklater, best known for leading television series like Netflix’s “Midnight Mass,” joins actors such as the late Kevin Conroy in voicing Batman on television.

Bonilla, Eric Morgan Stuart, Tom Kenny, Minnie Driver, Diedrich Bader, Jamie Chung and Christina Ricci. Characters set to appear in the show include Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Ricci), Harley Quinn (Chung) and Harvey Dent/Two Face (Bader).

Prime Video’s logline for “Caped Crusader” reads: “Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human — the BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”

The series is a reimagining of the Batman mythology that includes executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm. Reeves directed Robert Pattinson in “The Batman,” and Timm is the co-creator of “Batman: The Animated Series.” “Caped Crusader” is set to build on that series, which aired on Fox Kids for 85 episodes from 1992 to 1995 and won a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding animated programming.
Prime Video placed a two-season order for the cartoon last year after the series was scrapped at Max. “Batman: Caped Crusader” will premiere Aug. 1 on Amazon Prime Video. The streamer will release all 10 episodes of the first season. Watch the cast announcement teaser below.
